Our Board

Our board of directors consists of a diverse and motivated group of community members who are committed to the success and vibrancy of youth in our community. Their wide range of expertise is instrumental in achieving the overall goals of GEMS.

    Marya Merriam

    Grew up in Brookfield Vermont.  They are now a small farmer in Stratford and are dedicated to creating a summer camp where youths from all backgrounds can create meaningful relationships. 

  • Ann Standy by the ocean.

    Ann Howard

    Ann grew up and lives in Braintree Vermont and now works at RACDC with seniors and senior housing.  She has served on the board since 2022 because she believes very strongly that all young people from all socioeconomic backgrounds should have equal access to opportunities.

    Shelby Girard

    Shelby lives in Brookfield, Vermont and works for a food justice non-profit. She appreciates GEMS’ unique approach to helping young people thrive in middle school. She joined the Board in 2021 and currently serves as Treaurer. 

  • Kara Merrill

    Kara Merrill has served on the GEMS Board since its founding and is our connection to Randolph Union Highschool where she works as a Guidance Counselor.  She is a firm believer in the power of summer programming as both a camper and counselor in her past.

  • Katie Jickling

    Founder

    Katie is a Randolph Union Alumi.  Katie graduated from Hamilton College in 2015 and worked as a Vermont journalist before pursuing grad school in Belgium.  She loves to have deep discussions, play capture the flag and learn cool dance moves from GEMS campers.
